Frequently Asked Questions

Your first session will focus on introductions, with an emphasis on building rapport and getting to know you as the client. After establishing privacy and confidentiality is understood, we will work to identify your goals for counselling.  In subsequent sessions we will work through a range of modalities, review your progress and help you to explore your goals.  Under skillful guidance, we will explore  your experiences and emotions and potentially introduce coping strategies, tools, or exercises tailored to your needs. 


Referrals from a medical practitioner are not required for counselling services. You are able to book in for counselling sessions following our intake questionnaire.  Please make contact via the online form if you would like to enquire about booking in. 


Counselling with Red Oak Counselling is not a crisis service.  The aim is to work with you as an individual towards your own personal goals, improving and strengthening your mental health. 


An online counselling session at Red Oak Counselling costs $100. If you are finding the cost prohibitive, please reach out using the contact form so we can attempt to find you a solution.


Unfortunately, at this time Medicare does not cover the cost of counselling services. 


Once you have completed the initial paperwork and booked in a time for your session, you will be sent a secure link for the telehealth session. You should ensure that you have a good internet connection and a quiet, private place to connect. You can join by computer, phone or tablet. Login a few minutes before your booked time and Greg will login in and begin the telehealth session. You will have the option of voice-only or video call, with the video option preferred.


Counselling through Red Oak Counselling is offered to all clients aged 12 and over.  We do not currently offer couples counselling. 


The number of counselling sessions people typically need varies widely based on individual circumstances. On average, many individuals attend between 5 to 15 sessions, but some may find relief in just a few sessions, while others might continue for several months or even longer. Factors influencing the duration include the complexity of the issues, personal goals, and the individual's progress. Red Oak Counselling will discuss discuss your specific needs and goals. 


Red Oak Counselling is not a crisis service and may not respond immediately to email or the contact form. If you require a crisis service or any type of immediate attention please contact one of the services below or dial 000
